Mounjaro vs Ozempic: Which Is Better for Weight Loss in Nigeria?
Mounjaro and Ozempic are the two most talked about weight loss injections in Nigeria. Both are once weekly, both reduce appetite, and both can change lives. But they're not the same. Here's how they compare on results, side effects and price, and how our team of doctors helps you choose.
The short answer: Mounjaro produced more weight loss on average in a head-to-head trial, while Ozempic has a longer track record and may suit some budgets better. The right one depends on you. MedVanceNg stocks both, and our doctors will recommend the best fit.

How they work
Both medicines copy natural gut hormones that tell your brain you're full, slow down how fast your stomach empties, and help control blood sugar. Ozempic copies one hormone, GLP-1. Mounjaro copies two, GLP-1 and GIP. That dual action is the main reason Mounjaro tends to produce more weight loss.
Which gives better weight loss results?
In 2025, the SURMOUNT-5 trial compared the two directly in adults with obesity. After 72 weeks, people on tirzepatide lost about 20% of their body weight on average, compared with about 14% on semaglutide. For someone weighing 100 kg, that's roughly 20 kg versus 14 kg.
That doesn't mean Ozempic doesn't work. Many of our patients do very well on it, especially those who respond strongly to GLP-1 or prefer a medicine with a longer track record. Semaglutide has been used since 2017 and also has proven heart benefits for people with type 2 diabetes and heart disease.
Side effects compared
Side effects are very similar, and mostly happen when you start or increase a dose:
- Common: nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating and reduced appetite.
- Less common but serious: pancreatitis, gallbladder problems and severe dehydration.
Neither is suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or for anyone with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid cancer or MEN2. That's why every MedVanceNg order starts with a doctor's review, and why our team raises your dose step by step to keep side effects manageable.
